Glenella Park Cemetery

Location: Glenella Road, Glenella, Mackay.

Local Government Authority: Mackay Regional Council

Access: Cemetery no longer in existence. Was located in close proximity to the present Brickworks Court off Glenella Road on the present Glenella Industrial Estate.

History: The first burial took place on 11 September 1951 and the last took place on 17 June 1952.  The cemetery was not deemed suitable for a cemetery after being in existence for less than a year.  The soil was too saturated in the wet season and huge cracks in the soil appeared in the dry season.  A decision was made to close the cemetery and the people interred were exhumed and reburied in the Old Mackay Cemetery during 1953.

Number of Burials: 65 according to the Mackay burial register.

Notes:  The original burial register for the cemetery is kept in the Mackay City Council in the front of the first burial register for the Mount Bassett Cemetery.  The re-interments were also recorded in the Old Mackay Cemetery records in time order and some read as ordinary burials.

Burial Records: Burial Records for the Glenella Park Cemetery are held by:
  1. Mackay Family History Society
  2. Mackay Regional Council
